Supports research to increase understanding of atmospheric regions from the middle atmosphere through the thermosphere, ionosphere, and exosphere. Projects explore coupling, energetics, chemistry, and dynamics on regional and global scales using ground and space observations, theory, and modeling. Novel approaches including AI, ML, and open science practices are encouraged.
Eligible applicants include U.S.-based for-profit organizations, non-profit non-academic organizations, accredited U.S. institutions of higher education, and federally recognized Tribal Nations. International branch campuses require justification.
