This funding opportunity supports investigator-initiated early phase clinical trials of natural products such as botanicals, probiotics, and dietary supplements with strong scientific rationale. It provides up to three years of milestone-driven support for testing pharmacokinetics, bioavailability, and mechanism of action in humans (R61 phase). Upon milestone achievement, up to three additional years (R33 phase) may be awarded to replicate findings, optimize delivery, or combine treatments to assess clinical outcomes and target engagement.
