Supports multidisciplinary teams conducting convergence research that integrates diverse disciplines to solve complex scientific or societal challenges. Proposals must present innovative, paradigm-shifting approaches with a five-year plan split into two phases. Initial funding covers two years with evaluation for continuation. Budgets are capped at $1.2M for Phase I and $2.4M for Phase II. Projects should foster new scientific communities and transformative technologies.
Eligible applicants include US-based institutions of higher education, non-profit non-academic organizations such as museums and research labs, and professional societies. Principal Investigators must hold full-time research or teaching positions at eligible US institutions.
