This fellowship supports promising predoctoral students in combined MD/PhD or other dual-doctoral degree programs at institutions lacking NIH-funded dual-degree training programs. It funds integrated research and clinical training plans and dissertation projects in scientific health-related fields. Research involving leading independent clinical trials is excluded, but participation in sponsor-led trials is permitted. The award aims to develop productive, independent physician/clinician-scientists.
Open to students in combined MD/PhD or other dual-doctoral programs at eligible U.S. institutions without NIH-funded dual-degree training programs. Foreign organizations and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are not eligible. Foreign components are allowed.
