Funding covers diverse methodologies such as fieldwork, laboratory experiments, collection-based studies, observational and manipulative research, synthesis activities, phylogenetic discovery, and theoretical modeling. Encourages interdisciplinary projects integrating biological organization levels and scales. Marine ecology and evolution research should be directed to specialized programs.
Eligible applicants include US-based non-profit, non-academic organizations associated with research or education, and US institutions of higher education acting on behalf of faculty. Proposals involving international branch campuses require justification of benefits and necessity.
