The Independent Scientist Award (K02) provides 3-5 years of salary support and protected time for newly independent scientists who will serve as lead investigators on independent clinical trials, feasibility studies, or ancillary clinical trials. The award aims to foster career development by enabling intensive research focus tailored to individual needs. Applicants not leading independent clinical trials should apply to companion FOAs.
Eligible applicants include a wide range of U.S. organizations such as nonprofits, institutions of higher education, government entities, small businesses, tribal governments, and others. Non-domestic entities and foreign components of U.S. organizations are not eligible to apply.
