The Independent Scientist Award (K02) provides 3-5 years of salary support and protected research time to newly independent scientists. It supports research excluding leading independent clinical trials but allows participation in trials led by others. The award is tailored to individual career development needs to enhance research potential.
Eligible applicants include a wide range of U.S. organizations such as state and local governments, nonprofits, institutions of higher education, tribal organizations, and small businesses. Foreign organizations and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are not eligible.
