Supports research advancing fundamental understanding of materials properties, discovery, design, synthesis, and characterization. Projects address phenomena from nanoscale to macroscale and enable new technologies. Funding prepares next-generation materials researchers and supports interdisciplinary approaches transcending traditional disciplines.
Eligible applicants include U.S.-based non-profit non-academic organizations associated with research or education, and accredited U.S. institutions of higher education acting for their faculty. International branch campuses require justification for involvement.
