This initiative funds research projects addressing the relationship between social disconnection—including both objective social isolation and perceived loneliness—and suicide risk in late life. It prioritizes studies that identify neurobiological and environmental mechanisms increasing suicidal thoughts and behaviors, use experimental therapeutics to develop and test interventions, and innovate service delivery models to enhance social connection and prevent suicide among older adults.
Eligible applicants include a wide range of organizations such as city and county governments, tribal organizations, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, small businesses, and educational institutions. Specific eligibility details are provided in the full announcement.
