This program supports early career scientists conducting basic and clinical research in oral, dental, and craniofacial fields. It funds pilot or feasibility studies and developmental projects aimed at generating preliminary data for subsequent R01 or equivalent grant applications. Clinical trials are not allowed under this R03 mechanism.
Eligible applicants include a wide range of U.S. organizations such as county and state governments, nonprofits, small businesses, institutions of higher education, tribal governments, and others as specified. Early career investigators are targeted.
