The Basic Instrumentation Grant (BIG) Program funds NIH-supported investigator groups to acquire a single new, costly, specialized, commercially available instrument or integrated system. Eligible institutions must not have received significant S10 funding recently. Awards range from $25,000 to $350,000 and support instruments like cell sorters, confocal microscopes, ultramicrotomes, gel imagers, and computer systems. Foreign entities and components are excluded.
Eligible applicants include nonprofits, private and public institutions of higher education, and certain minority-serving institutions. Foreign organizations and foreign components of U.S. organizations are not eligible.
