This funding opportunity supports investigator-initiated proof of concept studies investigating the mechanisms by which bariatric surgery impacts cancer risk. It encourages exploratory development and feasibility studies that have not been previously developed or supported by preliminary data. The focus is on cancer-related effects rather than short-term outcomes like weight loss or diabetes. Unpublished data are not permitted, but references from widely available preprints with DOIs are acceptable. Foreign components of U.S. organizations are allowed, but non-domestic entities cannot apply.
Eligible applicants include a wide range of organizations such as governments, nonprofits, institutions of higher education, small businesses, tribal organizations, and federal agencies. Non-domestic entities are not eligible to apply, but foreign components of U.S. organizations are allowed.
