This funding supports innovative mechanistic research to accelerate precision probiotic interventions through a milestone-driven R61/R33 phased innovation award. The first phase identifies host biological patterns affecting probiotic responses, while the second phase tests these patterns in mechanistic studies using animal models or human subjects. The combined award duration is up to 5 years, with transition contingent on milestone completion.
Eligible applicants include a wide range of organizations such as tribal governments, institutions of higher education, nonprofits, small businesses, and government entities. Non-domestic entities are not eligible to apply, but foreign components of U.S. organizations are allowed.
