This funding opportunity supports multidisciplinary research programs aimed at advancing discovery, preclinical development, and proof of concept testing of novel candidate agents and neurostimulation approaches to treat mental disorders, substance use disorders, and alcohol use disorder. It also encourages development of novel ligands and circuit-engagement devices to characterize or validate drug/device targets. Partnerships between academia and industry are strongly encouraged to achieve broad, long-term research goals involving multiple projects.
Eligible applicants include a wide range of organizations such as tribal governments, nonprofits, state and local governments, small businesses, institutions of higher education, and others. Foreign organizations are not eligible to apply, but foreign components of U.S. organizations are allowed.
