This funding supports pilot studies that provide necessary and sufficient data to plan Phase II-IV clinical trials focused on testing efficacy, safety, clinical management, or implementation of interventions for heart, lung, blood, and sleep disorders. The R34 mechanism funds research answering scientific or operational questions to inform trial development. Future clinical trial funding requires a separate application.
Eligible applicants include a wide range of organizations such as tribal governments, educational institutions, nonprofits, small businesses, government entities, and others. Non-domestic entities are not eligible to apply, but foreign components of U.S. organizations are allowed.
