This program supports research on complex infrastructure systems and their interactions with people across local to global scales. It funds interdisciplinary studies focusing on system integration, user-inspired design, data analytics, and socio-technical innovation under normal and extreme conditions. Research leveraging NSF's Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure to reduce impacts of natural hazards is encouraged. The program excludes research focused solely on individual infrastructure components without a systems perspective.
Open to all types of entities without restrictions, subject to additional clarifications in eligibility text. Proposers are encouraged to consult program officers for scope guidance, especially for multidisciplinary proposals.
