The MIRA award provides early stage investigators with funding to start and sustain independent research careers aligned with the NIGMS mission. It supports ambitious, creative projects, exploration of new research areas, adoption of emerging techniques, and mentoring of trainees in a stable environment.
Eligible applicants include a wide range of U.S. organizations such as academic institutions, nonprofits, small businesses, tribal governments, and various government entities. Foreign institutions are not eligible to apply, except for allowed foreign components.
