This funding opportunity supports basic research aimed at understanding and mitigating the deleterious effects of acute exposure to ultra-potent synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, carfentanil, and nitazenes, as well as their combinations like fentanyl and xylazine. Research on persistent and delayed pathophysiological effects following acute exposure is also supported. Clinical trials are not allowed under this initiative.
