This program supports a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary research in Science and Technology Studies (STS), focusing on the conceptual foundations, historical developments, and social contexts of STEM fields. Funded projects may be empirical or conceptual and explore intellectual, material, or social facets of STEM using historical, philosophical, and social scientific approaches. Various proposal types are supported, including research grants, scholars awards, professional development, and doctoral dissertation improvement.
Eligible applicants include U.S. Institutions of Higher Education and U.S. Non-profit, Non-academic Organizations for most proposal types. Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants are limited to U.S. Institutions of Higher Education. Conference Support has no limitations.
