Supports systematic, theory-driven research in all sub-fields of cultural anthropology using diverse methodologies such as ethnographic fieldwork, surveys, computational modeling, and archival research. The program funds projects that produce generalizable, empirically grounded findings to build a robust anthropological science of human society and culture. Applied research without theory advancement is not supported.
