The REU program funds undergraduate student participation in NSF-funded research through REU Sites and Supplements. Projects may be disciplinary or interdisciplinary and can include international components. Students must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents and apply through individual REU Sites, which manage their own selection processes. Principal Investigators oversee REU Sites, with possible Co-PIs for shared management.
Principal Investigators must be individuals responsible for overseeing REU Sites, with possible Co-Principal Investigators. Undergraduate student participants must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents. Students apply through REU Sites, not NSF directly.
