This funding opportunity supports multidisciplinary bioengineering research that applies integrative approaches to solve biomedical problems. It funds design-directed, developmental, discovery-driven, or hypothesis-driven research, including clinical trials that test functionality or validate performance in translational settings. Phase III clinical trials and conventional clinical trials without translational motivation are excluded. The grant excludes commercial production support and encourages small teams to advance biological, clinical, or translational science.
Eligible applicants include nonprofits (with or without 501(c)(3) status), state and local governments, institutions of higher education, Native American tribal organizations and governments, small businesses, for-profit organizations other than small businesses, public housing authorities, special
