This funding opportunity supports clinical projects that address critical needs for clinical trial readiness in rare diseases. It funds development and testing of biomarkers and clinical outcome measures, or defining disease presentation and course to enable design of upcoming clinical trials. The goal is to facilitate efficient movement of candidate therapeutics or diagnostics toward clinical trials and increase their likelihood of success. Clinical trials are not allowed under this R21 mechanism.
