The EBBS program funds fundamental engineering research to expand understanding of biological and physiological systems and improve human health. It supports studies on microbial populations, therapeutic cells, biosensing platforms, tissue engineering, rehabilitation engineering, and biomanufacturing. Projects must combine mechanistic insights with experimental and computational techniques to develop new platforms, devices, tissues, and processes. Drug design, delivery, clinical trials, and commercialization projects are excluded. Limited human volunteer studies may be supported if appropriate
Open to all types of entities without specific restrictions. Additional eligibility clarifications may apply as noted in the full text.
