This opportunity funds integrated research to advance HIV/AIDS studies by implementing human new approach methodologies (NAMs) to reduce or replace specific pathogen free (SPF) in vivo models where appropriate, while supporting SPF colony resources when in vivo models remain necessary. Funded activities include NAMs triage and consultation services, referral pathways to NAM centers, optional HIV human in vitro testing support, pilot benchmarking projects, and comprehensive SPF colony management including virologic surveillance and immunogenetic characterization.
Eligible applicants include a wide range of U.S. government entities, educational institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, tribal governments, housing authorities, regional organizations, and foreign institutions. Specific eligibility details are provided in the announcement.
