This grant supports projects that promote innovative and evidence-based strategies in American history, civics, government, and geography instruction. It funds professional development activities for teachers, principals, and school leaders, especially those benefiting students from low-income and underserved backgrounds. Applicants are encouraged to form strong partnerships with local and State educational agencies and to design projects grounded in best research and teaching practices.
Eligible applicants include private and public institutions of higher education, nonprofits with or without 501(c)(3) status (excluding institutions of higher education), and for-profit organizations other than small businesses.
