This grant supports State, Tribal, and Territorial Governments in enhancing mining safety and health through developing and enforcing mining laws, improving workers’ compensation and occupational disease programs, and delivering targeted training. Emphasis is on new and small mining operations, contract employee hazards, powered haulage safety, emergency preparedness, mine rescue, electrical safety, and falls from heights. Programs aiding critical minerals mining, including coal, are encouraged to address the National Energy Emergency.
Eligible applicants include city or township governments, county governments, special district governments, State governments, public and State controlled institutions of higher education, Native American tribal organizations (non-Federally recognized), and Federally recognized Native American triba
