This program funds training initiatives that enhance law enforcement officers' and associated professionals' skills in de-escalation tactics, responding safely to mental health crises, engaging with individuals with disabilities, participating in crisis intervention teams, and making referrals to community services. Funding supports projects across three categories: direct agency support, continuation of regional training centers, and curriculum integration in academies and state training commissions. Partnerships with adult learning experts are encouraged to improve training effectiveness.
Eligible applicants include state, county, city or township governments, special district governments, federally recognized Native American tribal governments, other Native American tribal organizations, and other units of local government such as towns, boroughs, parishes, and villages.
