It provides funding stability and scientific freedom to pursue ambitious, innovative studies aligned with the awarding Institute or Center's mission. The award is intended as the primary source of research funding, enabling investigators to focus on research, mentoring, and scientific service with less administrative burden.
Eligible applicants include a wide range of organizations such as state, county, and city governments, tribal governments and organizations, public and private higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, small businesses, and others as specified.
