The TURTLE Program funds eligible Tribal Entities to develop and implement training and mentoring activities for students pursuing baccalaureate or doctoral degrees in biomedical research. The program emphasizes building skills in Tribal health research and facilitating students' transition into biomedical research careers. Applications are by invitation in a limited competition and undergo NIH peer review.
Eligible applicants include federally recognized Native American tribal governments, Tribal colleges or universities, Tribal health programs, Tribal organizations, or consortia of these entities. Applicants must be Tribal Entities as defined under relevant U.S. codes.
