This ongoing program funds Legal Aid Commissions to support legal defense costs in serious, high-cost Commonwealth criminal cases including drug importation, terrorism, fraud, and related post-sentence and community safety order matters. It aims to prevent adjournments due to lack of representation and ensures cost-effective defense for indigent clients.
Eligible applicants must have an Australian Business Number, be registered for GST, hold an Australian bank account, and be among the entities listed in the Grant Opportunity Guidelines section 4.1. Further eligibility details are in section 4 of the guidelines.
