Funding supports clinical research units that foster collaborations in disease- or patient-oriented translational clinical research within university hospitals. It promotes long-term scientific working groups, supports early career researchers, and enhances training and scientific profiles of medical departments. Funding is generally for up to eight years, split into two four-year periods, with proposals accepted anytime and decisions made quarterly.
Eligible applicants are researchers in all disciplines at German research institutions who have completed their academic training, typically holding a doctorate. Commercial organizations and those unable to publish results publicly are ineligible.
