This grant supports high-risk theoretical projects in mathematics, physics, and computer science that show exceptional promise and scientific importance. Funding is flexible up to five years and can cover salaries, travel, equipment, meetings, and other research expenses. Applicants submit a letter of intent via Simons Award Manager on a rolling basis, potentially leading to a full proposal invitation.
Eligible applicants are tenured or tenure-track faculty or equivalent at U.S. foreign educational institutions or research centers, excluding for-profit and Chinese institutions. Simons Foundation employees are ineligible as PIs.
