Traditional Conservation Grants support state and territorial programs to conserve and recover federally listed endangered and threatened species, as well as candidate and eligible unlisted species. Funded activities include habitat enhancement, species surveys, propagation, genetic research, public education, and monitoring. Grants require cooperative agreements under the ESA and cost sharing, enabling states to implement effective conservation and recovery projects.
Eligible applicants are states or territories with a cooperative agreement under the ESA and a required non-federal cost share of 25%, or 10% for joint projects. Local governments and conservation groups may participate as subgrantees in partnership with eligible states.
