The Evaristo Prize for African Poetry awards $1,500 annually to ten original poems by African poets who have not yet published a full-length poetry book. Poems must be in English or translations, no longer than 40 lines, and submitted as manuscripts of exactly 10 poems. The prize encourages emerging African poets and excludes applicants affiliated with certain presses or universities. Submissions are accepted annually from October 1 to November 1 via Submittable.
Open to African poets born in Africa, nationals or residents of African countries, or with African parents. Applicants must not have published a full-length poetry book and cannot be affiliated with specified universities or presses.
