This one-time grant supports established Math+AI institutes or centers to tackle AI challenges by funding workshops and initiatives that evaluate AI-assisted results, promote new tools, and develop collective standards for AI use. It excludes funding for institute operations or new establishments and requires a physical space. The program excludes national labs and university faculty research centers and was created in partnership with Anthropic and OpenAI.
Eligible applicants are established U.S. and foreign public and private educational and nonprofit institutes and research centers, excluding national labs and university faculty research centers. Institutions in China and their agents are ineligible. Simons Foundation employees cannot apply as PIs.
