This grant provides financial and technical assistance to rural volunteer fire departments to improve wildland fire suppression capabilities, firefighter safety, personal protective equipment, and basic wildland fire training. Awards are competitive and based on application quality and equipment needs. Eligible purchases must comply with program guidelines and support wildland firefighting.
Eligible applicants are single fire departments serving rural areas or communities with populations of 10,000 or less. Area fire departments serving aggregate populations over 10,000 may qualify if their service area includes eligible rural communities.
